Aisha Fahmy Palace
It is located on Zamalek Island in Cairo and has recently been converted into a complex of fine arts.
Background
- The palace was built in 1907 & designed by the Italian architect Antonio Lachek in classical european style.
-The palace was the property of Ali Pasha until his death and transferred ownership of his daughter Aisha.
- A presidential decree was issued in 1958 to expropriate the palace for use as a republican palace. Another decree issued in 1964, the state seized the palace as public utility .
Project Target
1.Renovation of palace Landscape suitable to the current usage with total respect to it's historical value and classic European architecture style it was built on.
2. Creating a lighting design to emphasize it's main feature and beauty to street passengers and vehicle users.
Lighting Concept
Contrast in horizontal and vertical elements; emphasizing horizontal element to enhance stability , vertical elements to emphasize height and scale of building to bring sense of greatness and precious for our historical building .
Indigo squares indicate Focal elements.
Blue squares indicate Background elements.
Yellow sqaures indicate Transition element.
Elevation Analysis
1) Building masses : The building is one mass ( cube).
2) Elevation Limits and Edges.
- Ground line : The ground line is horizontal ( building) with different levels in Landscape , Nile Elevation entrance is on lower level .
-Skyline : The building skyline is horizontal .
3) Solid & Void : No voids the building is one uniform mass .
Landscape
- As the Palace was built in 1907 , with a classic European architecture style the landscape design must be coherent .
- Key Features of a classic Italian Garden Design :
1) Principle of imposing order over nature .
2) Symmetry & axial geometry.
3) Very formal lines that intersect .
4) Geometrically patterned beds .
5) Primaril evergreens fortexture, shape .
6) Few flowers .
Architectural Details
- Entrances : One main entrance for the building .
- Finishing Material : Red Bricks ( Dark Finish) , Candidate for sodium sources . : Brown Textured Rocks ( Dark Finish ) .
